17 year old amateur Sneha Singh of Hyderabad, already a three-time winner on the Hero Pro Golf Tour (Hero WPGT) and Avani Prashanth ( soon to be 15 years) of Bangalore showed their class shooting 7 and 6 under respectively over 54 holes to finish 8 strokes ahead of the next closest challenger at the Indian Golf Union’s (IGU) Rotary Southern Indian Amateur Championship at Prestige Golfshire Golf Club in Bangalore.
Whereas Sneha was steady with rounds of 70-71-68, Avani started with a 75 but came back strongly with rounds of 68-67 which included a final day back 9 of 5 under par to finish a shot back.
Sneha took the overall ladies and Category A junior title by a margin of 8 strokes from Hunar Mittal while Avani took the Category B title by a margin of 15 strokes !
The two girls are going to make up perhaps India’s strongest challenge till date when they play the Women’s Asia Pacific Amateur in Dubai this November, where the winner gets invites into two women’s majors and the Augusta Women’s Amateur next March.
In Category C, 13-year-old Prarthana Khanna of New Delhi shot a total score of 237 for a six-stroke win over Dia Cris Kumar of Bangalore at 243.
The tournament saw participation from 42 girls in Ladies, A, B & C categories.
Earlier, the event was scheduled at Eagleton Golf Resort but government intervention due to illegal encroachment by the club made the organising committee shift the venue at the very last moment.
