17-year-old Sneha Singh of Hyderabad who has a string of top 5 finishes to her credit, finally scored her first win since turning pro last July shooting 77-70-69 (even-par 216) at the Hero WPGT at Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata.

Sneha, who had won a couple of HWPGT titles as an amateur, entered the final round two shots behind joint leaders Amandeep Drall (70-75) of Panchkula and 18-year-old rookie Jasmine Shekar (72-73) of Bangalore, who were at 1-over 145. In the end, Sneha, who caught fire on the back 9, with 5 birdies, ended in a tie with Jasmine at even-par 216. The two players went up and down the 18th three times in the sudden death playoff before Sneha birdied the hole on her third attempt after both had parred the hole the first two times.

The playoff capped a remarkable late comeback for Singh who trailed Shekar by five shots heading into the back nine but made four birdies over the closing holes to catch the leader.

Amateur Saanvi Somu shot 73-76-72 (5-over 221) to finish third, followed by Seher Atwal 75-74-73 and Kriti Chowhan 75-71-76 for tied-4th at 6-over 222.

Sneha will try to carry this form over to this week’s event at Tollygunge Club from Feb. 20-23.
