Cameron Young’s unbelievable story !
Very few viewers had ever heard of Cameron Young before this week. He’s 25, from New York City.
In Fall 2019, he missed by 6 strokes at PGA Tour Qualifying 1st stage.
Summer 2020 – Monday qualifies for a Korn Ferry Tour (KFT) event and has a string of top 25 finishes to earn a KFT Special Temporary Exemption.
Spring 2021 – Two back to back wins on the Korn Ferry Tour to secure PGA Tour card for 2022.
2022 – 1st season on the PGA Tour, 2nd at Genesis Open, 3rd at PGA Championship, and now 2nd at The Open Championship.
Jumps to top 30 in the world rankings .
Drivable Par 4’s at The Old Course:
There were no less than 5 drivable Par 4’s this week which shows how driving distances have changed. As an example, runner up Cameron Young drove the green in the final round at the 7th, 10th and 18th holes !
No. 7 – 377 yards
No. 9 – 351 yards
No. 10 – 357 yards
No. 12 – 356 yards
No. 18 – 352 yards
Indian connection – Sahith Theegala
The 24-year-old Californian of Indian origin, was 11th at the halfway stage with rounds of 69 and 68 but faded on the weekend with rounds of 74 & 70 .
Theegala, the 2020 US NCAA College Player of the Year was playing in his first British Open, and only his third major ever.
The free swinging Theegala who has already earned US$2.5 million this year on the PGA Tour enjoyed the support of his family and other Indians at St. Andrews.

Two young Asians set personal bests:
Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana tied for 11th. He is a two-time winner on the Asian Tour and has signed with LIV Golf.
Philippines’ Justin De Los Santos, a 26-year-old Filipino, made the cut and the former Cal Poly golfer and 2015 Big West Conference individual champion, shot 71-73-70-74 (Even-par 288) to finish tied-74th at The Open.
