Mahreen Bhatia, Kartik Singh and Lavanya Gupta came away with top-3 finishes in the annual US Kids World Teens Championships at Pinehurst, North Carolina, on Saturday.
Bhatia shot 69-69-72 (6-under 210) to finish runners-up in the Girls 14 category. Kartik Singh shot 69-71-69 (7-under 209) for a third place finish in the Boys 13 category. Lavanya Gupta shot 72-73-68 (3-under 213) to finish third in the Girls 15-18 category.
Singh’s top-3 finish in the US Teens World championship also earned him a spot as part of the international team vs the USA in the Teen Van Horn Cup at iconic Pinehurst no. 2, which will play host to the US Open next year. Singh and his teammate Ananta Sethakul shot a combined 65 to win the match and the Morrison Medal for the lowest round.
Top players emerging from US Kids include world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler, two-time major winners Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas, and Indian American Sahith Theegala. Women stars include Lexi Thompson and US Women’s Open winner Allisen Corpuz, a three-time winner and twice runner-up at US Kids.
