Tiger Woods was seen struggling to walk properly during Round 2 of the Masters
Tiger Woods announced on Twitter that he underwent surgery last Wednesday to address post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle that was caused by injuries suffered in a February 2021 car wreck.
I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis. Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!

The subtalar joint — often referred to as the hindfoot — is the articulation between the talus (main bone of the ankle) and the calcaneus (heel bone). It sits below the ankle joint and is primarily responsible for side-to-side motion. Because of that, pain at the subtalar joint will most often affect an athlete on uneven ground. Therefore, the more uneven and hilly a golf course is, the more the athlete will struggle, which is what happened to Woods at Augusta National. He had to retire from the tournament while standing on the 8th tee on Sunday.
OK, so Tiger Woods had a subtalar fusion to his right foot today, to alleviate the pain from the arthritis that developed after his car crash in January 2021. What exactly is that, why did he have it done, and what can be expected from it? 1/n

It was the second time in the past year that Woods had withdrawn from a major championship because of injury. In May, he pulled out of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after posting his worst score in the event, a 9-over 79, in the third round.
