27-year-old Tvesa Malik of Gurgaon shot 70-68-64 to regain winning form after two years at the Hero WPGT’s 11th Leg, held at Bangalore Golf Club. Malik finished at 1-over 202, following a remarkable 5 under par 29 on the final nine holes, good enough for a three stroke victory over young Durga Nittur from Bangalore.
The historic city centre Bangalore GC, following damage from a storm some weeks ago, played to a par 67 in the tournament with the par four 3rd and par five 8th holes shortened to play as par three holes and the 3rd hole played two times each day to complete the full 18.
Malik, who now has 11 domestic pro wins to her name and in 2021 finished 19th on the Ladies European Tour final rankings, began the final round with a one-shot lead over Nittur from Bangalore but trailed by two at the turn before roaring through the back nine in 5-under 29 to claim victory.
When asked about her return to the winner’s circle, Tvesa had this to say, “It’s a great feeling to get a win again after a while. The game has been feeling better but it’s been frustrating to not be shooting the scores I’d like. I’m excited to have won in tough conditions at BGC and glad to have finished the week on a good note.”
Sneha Singh of Hyderabad (69-72-66) (6-over 207) finished third, and continues to lead the 2023 HWPGT rankings followed by Gaurika Bishnoi (71-75-64) and Khusi Khanijau (74-71-65) who finished in a tie for fourth at 9-over 210.
The tour will now take a month-long break before resuming with the 12th Leg at DLF Golf & CC in September.
