Any golfer who’s dream it is to play golf every day, need only to look at American golf photographer Patrick Koenig who on January 2 , 2024 completed a record 580 rounds of 18 holes of golf played in 365 days which shattered the earlier record of 449 rounds.
He played courses of at least 6000 yards length and being a scratch golfer , had a low score of 67 along the way.
Koenig drove across the country in a Recreational Vehicle ( RV) or a Mobile Home and went from coast to coast covering many famous courses including the famous TPC Sawgrass in Florida ( home of The US$25 million Players Championship on the PGA Tour) to the famous seaside Bandon Dunes in Oregon, encountering wildlife like bears, bighorn sheep, bobcats, and numerous alligators. His journey included a memorable day in Florida where he played four rounds on four separate courses at Doral Country Club, where the LIV Golf Tour played its Finals in 2023.
With a sponsorship from Ecco for shoes and Golf GameBook scoring App as a key sponsor, he fundraised for First Tee, a youth development organization that uses golf. He took photographs along the way which arguably could make his collection unique and enviable.
His feat is certainly inspirational and demonstrates determination and tenacity. We can only wonder if anyone will ever exceed this record of 580 rounds of golf in one year.
