Varun Chopra wins APGA Tour’s Finale event in Georgia

23-year-old Indian-American Varun Chopra from Illinois shot an impressive 65-67 (12-under 132) at the TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia to secure his first-ever professional title in the prestigious US$155,000 Mastercard APGA Tour Championship.

This victory earned him a substantial prize of $55,000, the largest in the history of the APGA Tour.

Back in January, Chopra, who graduated from Northwestern University outside Chicago, competed in the PGTI Qualifying Event in India where he shot 62-71 in Stage – I to be the joint leader. Progressing to the Final Stage, Chopra continued to impress with scores of 68-70-68-71 (-3) to secure a tie for eighth at Tollygunge Club,  Kolkata and earn his tour card.

Chopra played in five PGTI events and his best finish was a tie for second in the PGTI’s inaugural event at Tollygunge Club.

With the long summer hiatus in the PGTI schedule, Chopra returned to the United States and actively participated in two Korn Ferry Tour events, but missed the cut in both.
