Team USA claimed their first Solheim Cup victory since 2017, defeating Team Europe 15 ½ to 12 ½

The Solheim Cup, a premier biennial golf tournament pitting team USA against Europe, recently concluded its 19th edition near Washington, D.C with team USA, led by Stacy Lewis, emerging victorious by a score of 15½ to 12½, marking USA’s first win since 2017.

The event saw a record attendance, surpassing the 130,000 fans from 2021, highlighted by a lively 2,000-seat mini-stadium around the first tee.

Women’s golf is experiencing unprecedented growth, reflected in record prize money for the LPGA, which reached $116.55 million this year, with 16 tournaments offering at least $3 million each. The 2024 total prize fund represents the highest ever in Tour history, up from approximately $70 million in 2021, a 69% increase. The Ladies European Tour (LET) has also expanded significantly, increasing its prize fund from €11.5 million in 2017 to €34 million this year, a record 209% increase with tournaments in 20 countries.

This surge in popularity highlights the untapped potential of Women’s golf in regions like India, where fewer than 5% of golfers are women, compared to about 25% globally. As the sport continues to grow, there is significant opportunity to increase female participation and further develop the game worldwide.
