The winning Willingdon Sports Club Team

For the first time in the 29-year history of the Grovers Inter-Club Tournament, Willingdon Sports Club (WSC) successfully defended its title, marking a milestone victory under the leadership of Team Captain Rahul Goyal. The two-day event was held on February 8 and 9 and has become one of the most important events on the Mumbai calendar. WSC emerged victorious, fielding a team with the lowest handicap average among all participating clubs—a record in the tournament’s history.

WSC’s standout performer was 12-year-old Priaan Kantawala, who won both his matches. Partnering with veteran golfer Jamsheed Mehta, the duo accumulated 4.5 points—the highest of any pairing in the competition. Priaan’s exceptional display earned him the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) award, presented by Captain Rahul Goyal.

Another debutant, Hrishi Munim, faced a formidable challenge in his singles match against BPGC’s strongest competitor, which he halved, and returned on Day 2 with partner Rohit Poddar to secure a commanding victory by the 15th hole.

Ex-Captain Akshay Kilachand played a crucial supporting role, caddying for Rohit Poddar across both days. The victory was further bolstered by the guidance of Golf Captain Riaz Batlivala, ensuring WSC lifted the trophy in consecutive years—a feat never before accomplished in the tournament’s history.

With this landmark achievement, WSC has solidified its dominance in the Grovers Inter-Club Tournament, setting a high bar for the competition in the years to come.
