Varun Muthappa is expected to be a name to watch out for on the Amateur Tour this year

18-year-old Varun Muthappa, ranked #1 on the South Zone IGU Feeder Tour, shot the course record 9 under par 61, at Bangalore Golf Club, birdieing 8 of the first 9 holes,  while winning the annual Karnataka Open Amateur Championship on August 27 and 28 over veteran David D Souza by a 9 stroke margin.

All eyes will be on Varun, who comes from a well known family of Bangalore golfers,  as he enters the IGU Amateur Tournament at the Karnataka Golf Association in September.

A student of Tarun Sardesai at Zion Hills, Varun’s previous best tournament score was 6 under par 66 at BGC in the Independence Trophy played on 16th Aug.

Muthappa started playing golf at the age of four, started entering tournaments at seven and since then has juggled between hockey and golf at St. Joseph’s School, and has been quite exceptional in both.

We wish him all the best as he starts competing on the national stage.
