Pro Golf – The Open
38-year-old and the 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen shot a flawless 6-under 64 to take a solo lead at the 149th Open at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in the U.K.
Oosthuizen’s opening round of 64 tied the lowest opening round at the venue, previously set by Christy O’Connor Jr. in 1981. In 2021, Oosthuizen has been a player to keep an eye on as he has finished tied-2nd at the PGA Championship in May and runner-up at the last month’s U.S. Open, making him quite a favourite to breakthrough in the final major of the season.
When you go bogey free, there are not going to be many mistakes 👏

Jordan Spieth, the 2017 winner of the championship, shot 5-under 65 to join Brian Harman as joint second, just a shot behind the South African. Spieth’s round has once again made him a favourite at the event, hoping him to bring back his performance from 4 years earlier when he lifted the claret jug at Royal Birkdale.
Shane Lowry, the defending champion from Ireland, opened up his title defense with 1-over 71 to stand tied-74th with Bryson DeChambeau, the current U.S. Open winner Jon Rahm.
Rory McIlroy, the 2014 Open winner, entered the tournament as a favourite, finishing even-par 70.
Bryson DeChambeau, the tour leader in driving distance stats, found trouble with his driver and shot 1-over 71 while complaining his driver isn’t that good for the week. DeChambeau currently uses a 5-degree Cobra driver, made specifically for him.
