Poona Golf Course hosts Women’s Pro event

The revamped Poona Club golf course saw only one player finish under par as 22-year-old Seher Atwal of New Delhi shot rounds of 71-67-73 (2-under 211) to win her first Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour (Hero WPGT) title. All other players finished over par as seasoned Vani Kapoor and 15-year-old, Hitaashee Bakshi finished four-strokes back on two over 215. 

Seher, the niece of Arjun Atwal, only Indian winner on the PGA Tour was able to clinch her maiden victory in just her seventh start as a professional. The Rollins College graduate, returned to India in March 2020, due to the pandemic and graduated in May, in an online graduation ceremony.

Seher, coached by Nonita Lall Quereshi, in 2021, has finished tied-6th in Bengaluru, tied-10th in Chennai and tied-4th in Mumbai, before claiming her first title at the Poona Golf Course. She now stands 7th on the Hero Order of Merit 2021. 

Talking about her relationship and guidance she has received from Arjun Atwal, Seher added, “When I was in the US, I would often speak to Arjun uncle, and even played with him. With college and practice, it was not as often as I would have wanted, but yes I was in touch with him.”

Other notable players in the field included Vani Kapoor who finished tied-2nd at 2-over 215, Amandeep Drall (3-over 216) finished tied-4th, Ridhima Dilawari and last week’s winner, 14-year-old Avani Prashanth (A)  both finished tied-7th at 4-over 217 and Tvesa Malik who finished ninth with her scores of 71-69-78 (5-over 218).
