It couldn’t have been a better birthday gift for American pro-Danielle Kang who won the US$2.1 million Buick LPGA Shanghai (October 18-21). The 26-year-old, who celebrated her birthday on the penultimate day of the tournament, pocketed $315,000. It was her second LPGA Tour title, after the KPMG Women’s Championship in July 2017.
Danielle’s four-day score at Shanghai’s Qizhong Garden Golf Club was 13-under 275 (rounds of 67-68-71-69), two strokes ahead of seven other women who were tied for second place (Americans Marina Alex, Annie Park and Britanny Altomare, New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, Wenbo Liu of China, Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and Sei Young Kim of South Korea).

Bengaluru’s Aditi Ashok finished T-47 with a total score of 3-over 291. She collected $7,853 (approx. `5.8 lakh) in prizemoney but slipped to 66th on the Race to CME Globe Rankings. Aditi, who is currently the only Indian to hold an LPGA card, had to miss the Hero Women’s Indian Open (which she won in 2016) as both events took place simultaneously.
With four events to follow, the 20-year-old is gunning for a place at the season-ending $2.5 million CME Group Tour Championship. The top 82 ranked players will compete at Tiburon Golf Club, Florida from November 15-18.
